Sangit Bhavana




Sangit Bhavana, an institute of dance, drama and music was established by Rabindranath Tagore in 1919. Located inside the Visva Bharati University complex in Shantiniketan, the center offers training in Rabindra Sangit, Hindustani Classical Vocal and Instrumental Music (Esraj, Sitar, Tabla, and Pakhwaj), Manipuri and Kathakali dance styles and Tagore's own musical dance dramas. Research facilities are provided for the talented post graduate students. Sangit Bhavana follows the rich traditions put forward by Dinendranath, Bhimrao Sastri, Indira Devi Chaudhurani, Santidev Ghosh, and Sushil Kumar Bhanja Choudhuri.
