Madal is a drum used in slow rhythms. Though it is widely used in India, the Sambalpuri Madal is quite different from the types used in other parts of the country and is made out of fired clay. Sambalpuri Madal looks like a cylinder. The Madal forms an integral part of the Sambalpuri music and is played along with most of the dance-less songs.
