A prolific Urdu short-story writer, Saadat Hasan Manto was born at
Ludhiana District in
Punjab in 1912. His publications include 22 collections of stories, seven collections of radio plays, three collections of essays, and a novel. 'Khol Do' and 'Toba Tek Singh' are among his distinguished works. He died at the age of 43.
