SMSS Hindu Mahila Mandiram, a social service institution, is situated at Poojapura in Thiruvananthapuram. Founded in 1920 in connection with the 16th birthday celebrations of Sreemoolam Tirunal, the center has brought relief and succor to hundreds of hapless girls and women of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The main objective is to provide shelter for poor women and orphan girls irrespective of religion and caste. Besides basic necessities, it renders general education and vocational training to them. Presently the institution runs many service centers, all housed in the same campus, including home for destitute girls, a hostel for working women, old age home, computer center, book binding and notebook making center and a weaving center.
