Rudraprayag

The holy town of Rudraprayag is located near Badrinath in Uttaranchal. It is nestled at the confluence of Alaknanda River and Mandakini River. The place is named after Lord Shiva who is also called Rudra. It is said that Sage Narada worshipped Lord Shiva here, who appeared in his Rudra incarnation to bless the sage. It was here that Shiva's consort Sati was reborn after her self-immolation. Sati had immolated herself because her father, Daksha, had humiliated her husband. In her new life, as the daughter of Himalaya, she did penance to wed Shiva again. The ancient temple of Rudranath is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Rudraprayag is blessed with immense natural beauty. The temples of Rudranath and Chamunda Devi are the main attractions here.
