Roja Muthiah Research Library (RMRL)




Roja Muthiah Research Library (RMRL) is a major centre for studies on South India. It is located at Anna Nagar, Chennai. Started in 1994, it has the largest printed Tamil collection in the world. The main feature of the library is the print documents which include drama notices and wedding invitations. The library is named after Roja Muthiah Chettiar, an unconventional bibliophile. His collections can be classified into three categories, namely, devotional, indigenous medicine and popular culture. This research centre also has a good collection of Tamil writer A. K. Ramanujam and renowned anthropologist Milton Singer. In addition, it also holds the war collections (1939-45) of Meyyappa Chettiar.
