Reang Tribe




Reang comprise the second largest tribe of Tripura. Even though the customs and living style are different from Tripuris (the largest tribe of Tripura), they are considered as the kinfolk of the Tripuris. They speak Kokbarak. It is believed that the Reang tribes had migrated from Bangladesh to Tripura. The group mainly believes in animism. Hindu deities are also worshipped.

Mataikatar is their chief god. The supreme dance form of the tribe is called the Hozagiri which is performed by the women folk. It is performed to worship the deity Lakshmi.
