Rasika Ranjani Sabha




Rasika Ranjani Sabha is located at Mylapore, Chennai. Started functioning in 1930, it is one of the oldest sabhas in the city. The sabha conducts classes for vocal music and a few select string and percussion instruments. It also organizes programs of renowned musicians and dancers. Many well-known musicians such as Musuri Subramaniya Iyer, Ariyakudi Ramanunja Iyengar, Palghat Mani Iyer, Mannargudi Sambasiva Iyer, Rajarathinam Pillai, Mysore Duraiswamy Iyengar and Balakrishna Sastrigal have conducted concerts here. Every year dance and music performances by K J Yesudas, T V Sankaranarayana, Madurai N Seshagopalan, Nityashree Mahadevan, Padma Subramaniam and Hyderabad Brothers are conducted. The sabha honours artists with Kala Ratna award every year. The annual music and dance festival is celebrated in December. To give a boost to the sagging drama industry, the sabha conducts Nataka Vizha (Dance Festival) in August.
