Sprawled over the
Aravalli and
Vindhya ranges, Ranthambhor is home to the great Indian tiger and part of the Project Tiger Scheme. It is the favorite haunt of professional wildlife photographers from around the world. It is also famous for dry deciduous forests with dhok trees. Once ruled by the courageous Rao Hammir, the Chauhan ruler, it served as guardian for the Rajput kingdoms. The 13th century fort and Ranthambhor National Park are of tourist interest.
The nearest town and railway station is
Sawai Madhopur, 12 km from Ranthambhor. There are daily trains from Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai.
