Ramkote, formerly known as Mankote, is an upcoming town located in
Kathua District of
Jammu and Kashmir. Situated on a hillock, it is one of the managerial divisions of
Billawar.
With abundant forest area, it forms one among the four territorial ranges of the Billawar Forest Division. The town is the famous centre of Pahari paintings.
Ramkote possesses some historic importance. This holy place is founded by Raja Manak Dev, a contemporary of Raja Narsingh Dev of Jammu (1272-1314). Raja Suchet Singh (1822-1843) renamed the place as Ramkote from Mankote.
The nearest railway station is Kathua Railway Station at Kathua and airport is Jammu Airport. By road, Ramkote can be approached on Dhar-Udhampur route.
