Rama Janmabhoomi, a bone of contention between the Muslim and Hindu community in India, is the place where Lord Ram is said to have taken birth. The place is situated in the Faizabad District of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Hindus, there was a temple dedicated to Lord Ram here. They argue that Babur, the 15th century Mughal invader, destroyed this temple and built the Babri Masjid in its place. Muslims dispute this contention.
This dispute went on for centuries and finally, the Babri Masjid was destroyed in 1992 by a large Hindu mob.
At present the land is sub judice and under the supervision of the India government.
