Rakhual Dance

Rakhual is a traditional dance of Manipur. It is performed by boys and is based on the life of Lord Krishna.

Rakhual borrows scenes from the Mahabharata. It mostly depicts the childhood of Lord Krishna and his elder brother, Lord Balram. Since most of the characters are in their childhood, the artists playing them are also young. Only the mature roles are enacted by the elderly persons. The costumes worn during the performance are very colorful. This dance is performed in a graceful and of sublime manner.
