Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia, hailed from the princely state of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh
. She was born in 1919, at Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, and married Jivaji Rao Scindia, the Maharaja of Gwalior in 1941. Later Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia joined politics and was the vice president of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), until 1998. She died in 2001, and was known to be a woman of principles.
The late Madhav Rao Scindia, who was also into active Indian politics for many years, was her son. Rajmata’s autobiography ‘The Last Maharani of Gwalior and Princes’ became an international bestseller.
