Established in 1988, Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI) is situated at
Jorhat in
Assam. It is one of the institutes under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE),
Dehradun.
This institute carries extensive research and activities in the areas of shifting cultivation, regeneration, management and improvement of forests and ecology. It also conducts applied research in soil and water conservation, tree crops in re-claimed sites, and standardization of silviculture and management practices. Seminars, workshops and training programs are also organized.
