Rabri Embroidery

The Rabri style of embroidery belonging to Kutch District features an ample amount of mirrors. It is usually done on a dark background, mostly maroon color, with the designs surrounded by a circular or octagonal arrangement of mirrors.

Mirrors of triangular, oval, square and circular shapes are used. Commonly used design themes are floral patterns, stylish or geometrically shaped medallions, scorpions and peacock. These designs are made using a particular kind of stitch called chain stitch. Another common image featured in this embroidery is Goddess Rudra Mata, the mother goddess of this region.
