Pykara River




Pykara is the largest river in Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. It originates from the Mukurthi peak. The river has a dam, Porthimund Dam and a power plant, 18 km away from Parsons Valley. The river flows down the hilly terrain towards the north and then flows in the westerly direction. There are a number of beautiful cascades and the last two waterfalls, known as Pykara falls, plunges to a depth of 55 m and 61 m. The dam also holds a boat house maintained by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC).
