Puttur




Puttur is located in Udupi District of Karnataka. It is about 3 km north-west of Udupi.

The place was earlier known as Hosathu Ooru, meaning ‘new village’ in local language. Later the name was shortened for easier pronunciation as ‘Puttur’. Sri Lakshmi Venkatesh Temple and the 13th century Durgambha Temple are important shrines in the vicinity.

The nearest railhead is Udupi Railway Station.
