The former capital of Rajas of Angul, Purunagarh village is located on the road to Tikarapada at a distance of about 15km from
Angul city in
Orissa. Raja Somanath Singh, last ruler of Angul, moved the headquarters to Krishnachakragarh in 1848. The village has many temples, chief among which are those dedicated to
Jagannath and Madanmohan. The solitude of the village makes it attractive to group picnickers.
