Purul




Purul is one of the six sub-divisions of Senapati District of Manipur. It is situated 120 km north of Imphal. It is one the biggest Poumai villages.

At Purul, the houses occupied by Poumai Naga Tribe are decorated with carvings of the bodies of tigers as well as humans. The houses of headmen are often decorated with carvings of the bodies of tigers, with their heads upside down, denoting their capture.These carvings and paintings on the walls are fine examples of tribal and folk art of North East India. This village is also noted for traditional style of wrestling. The villagers are experts in this game.
