Purbasthali

Purbasthali town is located in Bardhaman District of West Bengal. It is about 120 km north of Kolkata. Purbasthali is a favorite destination of migratory birds during the winter months.

Major point of attraction here is the Purbasthali Lake, a large oxbow lake created by the Ganges River, with clear blue water. This 3 km long lake attracts migrants and water birds (mainly various ducks and Asian Openbill). The ideal months for bird-watching with excellent field trips are from December to March.

Chupichar, Krishnanagar, Krishna Temple at Mayapur, and Nabadwip (the birth place of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu) are some of the major tourist centers near Purbasthali.

Purbasthali has a railway station, which is accessible by train from Kolkata.
