Pragbodhi

Pragbodhi mountain, popularly known as Dhungeswara, is situated close to Kiriyama village in Gaya. Lord Buddha had stayed in one of the caves in this mountain before attaining enlightenment. The literal meaning of the word Pragbodhi is ‘prior to enlightenment’. A small temple, run by Tibetan monks, is the major attraction here. Numerous ancient stupas lie on the top of the mountain. Climbers get a tantalizing view of the surroundings, including the spire of the Mahabodhi temple, from the summit. Pragbodhi is an ideal destination for the adventure enthusiastic. The Neranjara and Mohana rivers flow nearby. Visitors need to climb about 6 km to reach the historic cave of Pragbodhi. The easiest way to reach Pragbodhi is to take a bus that goes via old Gaya road. Patna Airport is the nearest airport.
