Poonithura




Poonithura village is located near Tripunithura in Ernakulam District.

The main feature of Poonithura is a temple without an idol. Belief is that before shifting to the main temple, Lord Poornathrayeesa (Lord Vishnu) came to and sat in this particular temple. Only during the Para Utsavam, the deity is kept in this temple and a special pujas are offered.

Another temple dedicated to Lord Krishna lies in the middle of the village. Gokulashtami is celebrated on a grand scale in this temple.

Poonithura has many sarppa kavus, the main being the Yakshi kavu. Chottanikkara temple is 6 km away.
