Poondi village is situated 60 km from
Chennai, in
Tiruvallur District,
Tamil Nadu. The place derived its name from 'poondu', a shrub which was once abundant in this place. The village is also famous for the huge Sathyamurthy Sagar reservoir, which makes Poondi an interesting picnic spot.
