Pong Lake Sanctuary




Pong Lake Sanctuary is located in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. It is 32 km from Pathankot and 115 km from Dharamsala. The sanctuary is beside the Pong Dam Lake.

Covering an area of 30,729 hectares, the lake was notified as a wildlife sanctuary in 1983. It is nestled in the Kangra valley and a major habitat for migratory birds such as red jungle fowl, peafowl and partridges. The main wild life species found in the area are nilgai, sambar deer, barking deer, wild boar, clawless otter and leopard.

The best time to visit is October to February.

Gaggal Airport, about 8 km, is the closest airport and Pathankot Railway Station serves as the nearest railhead.
