Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary

Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary spreads in Medak and Nizamabad districts of Andhra Pradesh. It lies on the shores of Pocharam Lake from which it gets its name. Covering over an area of 130 sq km, Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary is occupied by southern tropical mixed dry deciduous woods. There is a center for ecotourism where five species of antelopes and deer can be seen. The sanctuary protects animals such as leopard, forest cat, wild dog, wolf, jackal, sloth bear, sambar, nilgai, chinkara, chital and four horned antelope. Besides, the lake attracts certain migratory birds such as bar-headed goose, brahminy ducks and painted storks.

Best season to visit is from November to January. Accommodation is available in inspection bungalow at Pocharam and Medak.

Hyderabad, 120 km south of the sanctuary, provides easy accessibility through air and road.
