Peykavu




Peykavu is a Kavu situated just 100 m away from the Oyoor Keezhuttu Sree Durga Devi Temple. It is situated in the Oyoor village of Kollam District, at 18 km from Kottrarakara and 25 km from Kollam.

Peykavu is distinct that no idol of any Lord is installed inside the Kavu. Devotees believe in the presence of Lord Shiva and he is called ‘Appooppan (Grandfather)’. The rituals are performed by the male devotees who visit here and no Brahmin priests are meant for the same. Women are not allowed inside the Kavu. No special festival is connected with Peykavu, other than those celebrated in the Keezhuttu temple . Important offering to the Appooppan is ‘Pey-Oottu’ or serving the lord with food items, especially with banana.

Nearby attractions are Velinalloor Sree Rama Swamy Temple, Mathiyodu Madan Kavu, Kaithakkal Devi Temple. Kottarakara Ganapathi Temple is easily accessible from here.
