Perunchani Dam




Perunchani Dam, constructed across River Paralayar, is situated 42 km north-west of Nagercoil. Constructed during 1948–1953, this is the main reservoir to meet the drinking water and agricultural needs of Kanyakumari District. The total capacity of the dam is 77 ft above the mean sea level. This straight gravity masonry dam is 373 m long 77 ft high. It is constructed in between two hillocks. The reservoir is located on the southern border of the Thiruvananthapuram District. The surrounding places are ideal for recreation.

The nearest railway station is Kuzhithurai Railway Station and the nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport.
