Pena Ishei is a famous folk music sung in
Manipur. The core theme of this music is the love story of Khamba-Thoibi. The music is accompanied by an ancient instrument called
Pena. The instrument is made up of a slim bamboo rod attached to the round dry shell of gourd of coconut. The Pena is a sort of national symbol for Manipuris.
