Pavapuri Teerth

An ancient Jain teerth in Bihar

Pavapuri Teerth, a wonderfully constructed Jalmandir in the center of the lake is located outside the Pavapuri village in Bihar. The beauty of the lake is enhanced by the lotus flowers in it. The ancient idols in the Shwetambar and Digambar temples are spectacular.

This teerth was a city of the Magadhas in ancient times. Its ancient name was ‘Apapapuri’. This teerth is the place of the last monsoon sojourns of Mahavir Swami. Many kings and rich merchants came to hear the sermons of Bhagawan Mahavir. Bhagawan attained Nirvan on this land on the fifteenth day of the dark half of the month of Ashvin.
