Patteeswaram Durga Temple

Patteeswaram Durga Temple is located about 8 km south-west of Kumbakonam. The temple has five gopurams and the inscriptions reveal the Pallava, Chola, Nayaka, and Marathi strains and styles of architecture. Legend tells that Lord Ram came to this place and offered Shiva pooja on his way to Lanka. This is the place where the sage Viswamitra got enlightened. The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Durga.
