Patanjali Manoharar Temple




Patanjali Manoharar Temple is an ancient shrine located in Tiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu. It is about 3 km south-west of the Tiruvarur Temple. The principal deity is Lord Shiva under the name of Patanjali Manoharar.

Legend has it that Patanjali and Vyagrapadar worshipped Shiva at this place. A pathigam here, in praise of Patanjali Manoharar, is said to have been contributed by Sage Sambandar.

Patanjali Manoharar Temple has separate worship place for Goddess Madhura Bhashini. Close to the temple is a sacred tank known as Agni Teerth.

Tiruvarur is holy town situated 55 km east of Thanjavur. Regular bus services connect Tiruvarur with Thanjavur, Madurai, Nagapattinam and Mannargudi.
