Parashuram

Parashuram (also spelt Parshuram) village is located near Chiplun, in Ratnagiri District, Maharashtra. Tradition says that Parashuram, the hot tempered saint, gave up all his land to prove to his guru that he was a real sanyasi. After this Parashuram threw his mighty axe into the sea. The sea then receded up to the point where the axe landed and thus the village was created.
