Pangot

Pangot is a small village located at an altitude of 6,003 feet above the sea level in the north-western forest range of Nainital, which is 15 km away. A destination to enjoy trekking and birding, Pangot has some remarkable foot trails through conifers other than a long trail leading to Naina Peak, which is 2,610 meters high.

The Himalayan species of birds such as lammergeyer, bellied niltava, Himalayan griffon, blue-winged minla, rufous-bellied woodpecker, and khalij pheasant can be found. Animals including leopard, yellow-throated Himalayan martins, ghoral, barking deer, and sambar are also found here.

Nearby is Kilbury Forest Rest House, from where a walk to Pangot is very popular. There are several lodges and camps around. March to July and October to mid-December are the ideal time to visit. Kathgodam Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
