Panankatteesar Temple




Panankatteesar Temple is just 3 km away from Mundiyambakkam at Puravaar Panankaattur in Viluppuram District. It is one of the 275 Shivasthalams in Tamil Nadu. The temple gopuram has a height of 60 feet. The specialty of the temple is that the sun’s rays fall on Shiva's sanctum and then upon Parvati's sanctum for a period of seven days from the 1st of the Tamil year. Inscriptions from Chola period are found in the temple including the image of Bhikshantakar. The Sthala Vriksham is Panai Maram (Palm Tree) and the teertham is Padma Teertham.
