Padda-Puran Nritya

Padda-Puran Nritya is a dance performed during the celebration of Sarpadevi in Assam. This dance troupe has a main bearer known as Gidal. Others in the group are a number of ‘palee’ and two ‘Bain’ (musician). Stories of Padda, Shiva, Chando and Behula-Laksmindhar form the plot of dance.

The dance is performed when the ‘Gidal’ dances with the ‘Choar’ in his hand. During this occasion, the Palee plays the ‘khutitaal’ wearing the mask of snake and ‘Padda’.
