Orippurathu Bhagavathy Temple




Orippurathu Bhagavathy Temple is situated in Pathanamthitta District of Kerala and is about 8 km from Pandalam on the way to Pathanamthitta.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavati, an incarnation of Shakthi. The temple is famous for its annual five-day festival, which commences with Kettukazhcha. The display of towering chariots and giant bullock models made of wooden planks are the major attraction of Kettukazhcha.

During the festival season, various rituals and folk arts such as Velakali, Mayilattam (peacock dance), Ammankudam and Arayannam, are conducted. On the second day, the famous ritual Garudan Thookkam is performed. The festival comes to an end with the Ezhunallathu (royal outing) ceremony. Hundreds of people from far and near throng the temple during the festive season.

The nearest railway station is Chengannur Railway Station.
