North-Eastern HilI University, established as a Central University in 1973, has its headquarters at
Umshing in
Shillong. Its jurisdiction extends to
Meghalaya and
Arunachal Pradesh.
The university has 54 affiliated colleges, which run 21 undergraduate degree programs in sciences, arts, humanities, management and engineering. It has about 22 postgraduate departments, four centers of studies and a biodiversity cell.
