Nisoth




Nisoth, also known as Ipomoea turpethum, is a common medicinal herb, growing in the Chhattisgarh region. There are two varieties of Nisoth - black and white. It is a large herb with long root and small leaves. Flowering time is from the month of October to February and it varies according to the Chhattisgarh climatic conditions. The herb is used for the treatment of many common diseases. Mainly the roots are used as medicine. Before digging Nisoth roots, people arrange a small holy ceremony in the forest. The combination of curd with the roots will give better results. In order to reduce the body temperature, the patients are given the powdered roots mixed with pure honey. It is used to decrease fat, in case of obesity.
