Nettoor Mahadev Temple

Nettoor Mahadev Temple is situated at Nettoor in Ernakulam District. The unique feature of this temple is that presiding deity of the temple is Sankaranarayana, a combination of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.

The Mahadev Temple is famous for the eight-day long annual festival. A traditionally ornamented elephant carries the image of both Shiva and Vishnu around the temple in a grand procession on the seventh evening, which is accompanied by the temple music ensembles and three other tuskers. The festival concludes with the Arattu on the final day. Another festival celebrated is the one-day Atham Thalapoli when five caparisoned elephants lead a procession of Thalapoli (devotees carrying offerings and oil lamps). A fireworks display marks the conclusion. In these days, needless to say, huge crowds flock to the shrine.
