Nerkuppai




Nerkuppai is a small village 35 km from Karaikudi. The word 'Nerkuppai' means 'load or heap of rice.' The village has many temples and ponds. The Subramania Swami Temple, belonging to the Nagarathars (the Nattukottai Chettiars, a prosperous banking and business community) is the main temple of the village. There are about 15 ponds (oorani) in the village, of which Panayappa Chettiar Oorani, Chetty Oorani, Mela Oorani and Nalloorani were erected by the Nagarathars.

Karaikudi Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
