Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary




Established in 1976, the Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary lies in Nelapattu village of Nellore District. It is about 20 km north of Pulicat Bird Sanctuary.

Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is considered one of the largest pelican habitats in Southeast Asia. It is also inhabited by grey pelicans, open-billed storks, little cormorants, spoon-bills, white-ibises and night herons. The sanctuary is also an ideal settling place of birds such as egrets, terns and ducks.

Chennai is about 50 km south of Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary. Nellore Railway Station on the Chennai-Guntur rail line is the nearest railway station.
