Neelakandeswarar Temple




Neelakandeswarar Temple is located at Tiruneelakudi in Thanjavur district. It is 13 km away from Kumbakonam. The deity of this Shivasthalam is known as Viswaranyeshwar and Neelakandeswarar. The Goddess Amudhakujambal, also called as Anubamasthini in the bridal attire and Baktabeeshtadhayini while in meditation, is also worshipped here. The specialty of the temple lies in the Shivlinga. It is two feet in height and has square projections in its rough surface. According to the traditional story, Parvati worshipped the lord by offering gingelly oil. The main festival celebrated here is the Chitrai festival (April-May). The temple can be accessed from Aduthurai railway station by traveling 4 km. The place is well connected by roads also.
