Needlework




Crochet and Embroidery are the traditional crafts of Goa. These arts, involving needlework, was introduced in this region by the former colonial rulers, the Portuguese. With the passage of time, needlework art has found deep root in the tradition and culture of the state.

It is a custom among the Hindu and Christian community of Goa, to display in front of the guests the fine embroidery and crochet work of the newly wed bride. Notable items exhibiting the fine needlework include curtains, table cloths, children and ladies garments, pillow, bed spreads, cushion covers and flowers woven with lace.
