Nartiang Monoliths




Nartiang Monoliths is located at Law Mulong in the village of Nartiang, Jaintia Hills District. It is a cluster of monoliths that is a major tourist attraction of the eastern part of Meghalaya.

These monoliths cover a wide complex of about 100 m in diameter. The menhirs are locally known as Ki Moo Shynrang, and dolmens are known as Ki Moo Kynthai.

Moo Iong Syiem, the tallest and biggest of the monoliths, is about 8 m height, 2 m breadth and 0.46 m thickness. It was erected by U mar Phalyngki, a trusted lieutenant of the Jaintia kings. Other monoliths were erected by U Mar Phalyngki, U Luh Lyngskor Lamare and the inhabitants of Nartiang village between 1500 and 1835 to commemorate the glorious events of the Jaintia Kingdom.

Nartiang market place is located to the north of Nartiang Monoliths. Local religious pujas are held at Law Mulong. Nartiang Monoliths is about 65 km from Shillong and 24 km from Jowai.
