Nanda Devi National Park in Chamoli District
lies in the vicinity of Nanda Devi Peak
. A part of the
, this park comprises the catchments area of the
Rishi Ganga River
and spreads over 630 sq km. The park was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The park supports bharal, Himalayan Tahr, serow, goral, snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan brown bear, leopard, common langur and Himalayan musk deer. Avifaunal species include warblers, grosbeaks, rose finches, and ruby throat.
The entry to the park is from Lata village, around 23 km from Joshimath. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, 315 km away, and the nearest railhead is Rishikesh Railway Station, at a distance of 276 km.
