Namgaya is the closest village from the Indo-China border, situated in
Kinnaur District,
Himachal Pradesh. Perched at an altitude of 3048 m above sea level, it is situated at the left bank of the
Sutlej River, about two km above its confluence with
Spiti river. The Shipki La Pass is just 13 km from here.
There is less activity around Namgaya; its vicinity is marked by unpleasant barrenness and desolation, but fields of barley, buckwheat, turnips and a few vines and apricots can be seen on the opposite bank of a rivulet, near a small habitation.
Major point of attraction here is a Buddhist temple named Lagang and four local goddess temples. Tashigang Gompa, a fine Buddhist monastery can be easily accessed from here.
