Nagar Fort




Nagar Fort is an ancient monument located at Nagar in Shimoga District of Karnataka. It is about 11 km north of Hosanagara. Built on a small hill beside a tank, this fort is believed to have been used by the Keladi rulers, as the place was their capital. Later, Hyder Ali captured this fort.

Nagar Fort has a system to circulate water around it for safety. The fort also includes a Darbar Hall, two tanks called Akka Thangi Kola (tanks of two sisters), and a cannon.

Shivappa Naik Palace, Neelakanteshwara Temple, Devagana Tank and Gudde Venkataramana Swamy Temple are some of the local attractions near Nagar.

Mangalore Airport is 96 km south. Shimoga Town Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
