Muttupatti



Muttupatti is a renowned Jain heritage center located in the Vadapaiangy region of the Madurai taluk in Madurai District. A large overhanging rock with a carved drip-ledge is situated near there. The cave contains thirty berths. One can also find two tirthankar images of the ninth century B C. Brahmi inscriptions are engraved inside the caves. The names of the monks and the men who carved them are imprinted there. Inscriptions, carvings, and other artifacts detail that Muttupatti has been an important center of Jainism.
