Muniyara




Muniyara, a part of Marayoor, is located about 40 km from Munnar in Idukki District. It is an archeological site with remnants of Dolmenoid cists dating back to the Megalithic age. Anthropologists from all over the world visit here for studying Dolmenoids, the burial chambers made of four stones placed on edges and covered by a fifth one called the cap stone. Varying in size and shape, Dolmenoids are lined with granite slabs.

Situated on the slops of the Western Ghats, Muniyara is an ideal destination for nature lovers and art lovers. Marayoor is also famous for its natural sandalwood forests and pre-historic rock paintings.

To get to Marayoor, Ernakulam Junction Railway Station (173 km) and Cochin International Airport (199 km) are the nearest connecting points.
