Mughal Road is a highway of great historical importance, located across the
Pir Panjal Range in
Jammu and Kashmir. The total length of the road is 89 km, of which 43 km is on
Kashmir side and 46 km is on
Jammu region. Apart from shortening the distance of journey, it also help in great inter regional cultural and economic exchanges.
The Mughals used to visit the Valley via this route through the apple town of Shopian. The road got its name after the Mughal Emperors. Even today, the splendor of Mughal caravans can be seen while passing through this road.
Some of the major places including Hurpora, Behramgala, Shopian, Dubjan, Rambiara, Bafliaz and Punar are situated in close proximity to the Mughal Road.
